Hey ladies and gents...
I will like to take a moment and talk about the black owned beauty supplies. I have been in business in my area for a year now & what has been stopping me from expanding the small spot I have is doubt. I have extreme reservations about how successful something like this will be. Not because I don't believe blacks will support me (though I'm not naive enough to know yes some won't) but it is mainly because I starting to think the market is over saturated. At first I compared it to the fast food chains and figured competition would be fine. But now I realize yes shampoo and conditioner is a essential but not your hair weave. Even though the long hair don't care thing is big amongst some women honestly everybody can't do it. They can't afford the 2 $50 bags of hair it requires to do that. Not knocking them @ all but it's the truth. So instead they do the bob or something like that where they could buy the hair that it between $10 and $20 dollars. I know in other cities there are a lot of woman who are embracing their natural hair which I think is a wonderful thing. (I am not natural, I'm def a weave wearer for the longevity I could get out of 1 hair style but still respect natural sistas). So no beauty supplys are not like fast food because food is a need not your weave. So Koreans must of thought it was cool to open within blocks of one another without not only the direct competion being affected but them and everyone else as well.
As I said I have been in the business for a year so I know the wholesale prices and sometimes the mark up is not that high because of the Koreans for years having pricing wars. Philadelphia is notorious for this they aren't making even 5 dolllars off of some of their hair products let alone the liquids. So I am still up an arms about where and how to continue with the hair business because though I want to make a dent in the business dominated by Koreans i'm unsure if I want to come into what seems like a mess just to be able to essentials prove a point to Koreans. Because to keep it real I want to make money. And with a little money and education you can do that (which I have both).
So I hope this helps anyone who had any questions bout beauty supplies. Feel free to leave comments are ask questions.
